How to Test a 12 Volt Electric Solenoid
When a solenoid no longer functions, the starter will not get any power to engage the flywheel and start the engine. In most cases there will be a clicking noise coming from inside of the solenoid as the magnetic switch attempts to close and complete the circuit. However, a drained battery or faulty wiring will also cause the same symptoms. Checking the voltage at the solenoid is a sure way to troubleshoot the problem.
