When a solenoid no longer functions, the starter will not get any power to engage the flywheel and start the engine. In most cases there will be a clicking noise coming from inside of the solenoid as the magnetic switch attempts to close and complete the circuit. However, a drained battery or faulty wiring will also cause the same symptoms. Checking the voltage at the solenoid is a sure way to troubleshoot the problem.

The water valve solenoid is the part which directs water from your house's water supply to the icemaker inside your Whirlpool refrigerator. Sometimes a solenoid can go bad, resulting in no water reaching your icemaker. Even if the solenoid is feeding water, it may be feeding too slow or dripping water slowly into the icemaker when it shouldn't be. This can cause the water line to freeze. Check your battery power

• Car starters require access to the battery to start the engine. The easiest way to check the battery power of the car is to turn the lights on while the car is off. If the lights come on, your battery has power. Take a voltimeter (available at auto parts stores) and connect the leads to your battery. A fully charged battery has 12.5 volts. A dead battery has less than 11.8 volts....
