How to Remove the Door Lock Solenoid From a Monte Carlo

May 10, 2010 | tags Door Lock Solenoid   | views

The door lock solenoid on a Monte Carlo is separate from the door latch mechanism. A failed door lock solenoid usually locks up, causing the rod to freeze in position. When this happens, it is difficult or impossible to change the manual door lock position. The door lock solenoid is secured to the door with ¼-inch rivets, making it difficult to temporarily disconnect the solenoid to allow the manual door locks to work.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the two Phillips head screws in the armrest. Insert a flat head screwdriver between the door panel and the door frame and pry out all the trim fasteners that secure the door panel. Pull the door panel away from the door enough to disconnect all the electrical plugs. Disconnect the electrical plugs.

  2. Step 2

Pull the moisture barrier back at the rear of the door, exposing the access hole to the door lock mechanism. Disconnect the electrical plug on the door lock solenoid.

  3. Step 3

Drill out the rivets securing the door lock solenoid to the door. The rivets are on the outside rear of the door under the door latch. Disconnect the door lock solenoid from the door lock rod and withdraw the solenoid from the door.

  4. Step 4

Install the new door lock solenoid by hooking it to the door lock rod then holding it in place while the rivets are pushed into the door. Rivet the door lock solenoid to the door. Replace the remaining parts in reverse order of removal.
